Pre 12th Century - Foulkes D'Oyley is the earliest known Doyle ancestor. He went to war with Richard the Lionheart (Richard I).
12th Century - Anglo-Norman family of D'Oel is registered in France. This family originally came from Pont d'Oilly near Rouen, in Normandy.
14th Century - The Doyle family move from France to establish a branch in Ireland. They took part in the conquest of Ireland. In 1333, Alexander d'Oilley eas granted lands in County Wexford by King Edward III.
1618 - The family coat of arms is ratified in County Wicklow.
1638 - James Doyle dies
1668 - John Doyle was dispossessed of almost all his Irish land in favour of the Duke of York, only the small estate of Barracurra was left to him.
1762 - Richard Doyle is forced to leave the estate at Barracurra. He moves to Dublin and sets up as a silk merchant. His son James Doyle, had two sons.
1797 - Richard Doyle's eldest son, John, was born.
