Curious Paper
Mary Morstan gave Holmes a 'curious paper' for him to examine on the way to the Lyceum Theatre. Holmes described it as "a paper of native Indian manufacture. It has at some time been pinned to a board. The diagram upon it appears to be a plan of part of a large building with numerous halls, corridors and passages. At one point is a small cross done in red ink, and above it '3.37 from left,' in faded pencil-writing. In the left-hand corner is a curious hieroglyphic like four crosses in a line with their arms touching. Beside it is written, in very rough course characters, 'The sign of the four - - Jonathan Small, Mahomet Singh, Abdullah Khan, Dost Akbar.'" (The Sign of Four)

Paper
Holmes handed Watson a sheet of thick, pink-tinted note-paper. Watson described it as "peculairly strong and stiff". Woven into the paper was a large "E", small "g", large "P", large "G" and small "f". The letter told them that someone would call later that evening. (A Scandal in Bohemia)

Pea Jacket
A heavy wool double-breasted jacket usually worn by sailors. Holmes used one in his sailor disguise. (The Sign of Four)

Pearls
Six pearls were sent to Miss Morstan on six years successive years. An expert pronounced that they were a rare variety and of considerable value. (The Sign of Four)

Photograph
Irene Adler had a photograph of her with the King of Bohemia. He asked Holmes to get it back for him. (A Scandal in Bohemia)
Irene Adler left Holmes a photograph of herself after she fled to the Continent with her new husband. (A Scandal in Bohemia)

Pocket / Pouch
Holmes found a small pocket or pouch made out of woven coloured grasses and beads on the roof of Pondicherry Lodge, home of the Sholtos. It was about the size and shape of a cigarette case. Inside it were half a dozen wooden spines, sharp at one end and rounded at the other, similar to the thorn that struck Bartholomew Sholto. (The Sign of Four)

Poker
Watson used Mrs Forrester's poker to break open the chest containing the Agra Treasure. (The Sign of Four)

Postcards
A thick bundle of postcards was on Watson's desk, from this Holmes deduced that Watson had been to the post-office on Wigmore Street to send a telegram. (The Sign of Four)
