11th October 1861 - Birth of Eille Norwood

Eille Norwood - his real name was Anthony Edward Brett; he chose his stage name because he once had a girl friend called Eille who lived in Norwood - was born October 11, 1861, at York, attended St. John’s College, Cambridge, received an MA degree there, and married the actress Ruth Mackay. He played Raffles on tour and acted prior to his entry into films with such distinguished actors as H. B. Irving and Arthur Bourchier.

 

1861 - Birth of Mary Doyle, fourth child of Charles and Mary Doyle. She died in childhood.

 

1863 - Opening of Baker Street Station

 

1866 - Birth of Caroline Doyle, fifth child of Charles and Mary Doyle, she also died in childhood.

 

1867 - Arthur Conan Doyle's Early Education

Conan Doyle’s education took place at home and in a local Edinburgh school until, at the age of nine, he was sent to the Jesuit Preparatory School at Hodder in Lancashire. Hodder was attached to the Jesuit Secondary School of Stonyhurst, and it was to this school that Conan Doyle moved after two years.
