Sir Arthur Conan Doyle
1817 - Conan Doyle's grandfather, John Doyle, left Dublin and soon (as 'HB') made a reputation as a caricaturist. He lived at 17 Cambridge Terrace, near Hyde Park.
1827 - John Doyle publishes his first caricatures. He was described, by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle in his The Memoirs and Adventures, as a 'gentleman, drawing gentleman for gentlemen and the satire lay in the wit of the picture and not in the misdrawing of faces. This was a new idea, but it has been followed by most caricaturists since then'. He married Marianna Conan, sister of Michael Conan, whom Arthur Conan Doyle visited in Paris on his was back from Boarding School in Austria. John and Marianna had 7 children (2 girls and 5 boys).
